In January of 2024, I received an invitation from PAKS Gallery out of Vienna to participate in various shows throughout Europe including The Contemporary Art Fair at The Carrousel du Louvre. This show is at the world famous Louvre in Paris and I opted to send The Chicago Lighthouse to the show. This is truly a once in a lifetime honor and blessing. The show runs October 18th-20th.
This painting is a scene depicting the “last of the whaleback freighters” (referred to as such due to their unusual shape). She is called the “Meteor”’, and she’s heading up bound through heavy seas in the early morning hours. Seen here, she has a chance encounter with her very namesake in the northern sky. This latest watercolor is called “A Chance Encounter”. I hope you like it.
Living in Minnesota, we have so much beauty right in our backyards or within driving distance and much of the scenery includes water. It's hard not to take a scenic image here that doesn’t have a lake, river, or pond as a central part of it. While not all of my paintings have had water in them and not all of my paintings are Minnesota images; most of my work is from Minnesota and does include water. Being a watercolor artist, water is always a part of my work no matter if it is depicted in the images or not.
For this reason; it is only natural to adopt the theme Water-Colors by Rick as the theme by which to identify what I do in painting. My ultimate goal is to better represent the magnificent creation all around us, and moreover… its magnificent creator.
